Year after year we see so many cellos come to our shop with broken necks that we have been looking for a cost-efficient case to provide some protection when kids are riding the school bus, going to festivals, even just walking through crowded school hallways. At $175.00 the Zip case costs only a little more than a good-quality, soft cover, and a whole lot less than the cost of a broken neck or a totaled cello.
To the best of our knowledge, we are the only supplier of this special, new product in the U.S.A. The Zip case is light-weight, only 9 lbs., and it has wheels! We have had it upgraded with an industrial-strength zipper, made by the Japanese company YKK. The case is covered in a tear resistant woven nylon which comes in a choice of five colors: black, blue, red, gray, and brown. The body is of molded, stiff rubber, laminated with rigid foam, lined with a soft black fabric to protect the cello's finish from scratches. These great cases are only available in full and 3/4 sizes.

Extraordinary Violin Bow
An extraordinary, nearly mint condition Cuniot-Hury bow is now available at our shop. It plays beautifully. It is made of exquisite flamed pernamuco, mounted in nickel-sliver on an ebony frog, and weights 60 grams. It comes with a certificate from Rafin which states that the bow was made circa 1910, is original in all its parts, and is a good example of these master makers.
ASTA-MD/DC Award
Gailes' Violin Shop, Inc. has been awarded the "Service to Strings Award 2009" from our local ASTA chapter. We will share the award with David Bash. We are very honored. Outstanding service has always been a top priority, as many of our clients will confirm. We're greatful that such an outstanding organization, ASTA-MD/DC, has recognized us once again.
New German Bows
Recently, Bill had the chance to be the 1st shop in the area to select from a collection of violin, viola & cello bows from German workshops, both master and commercial. After several hours, he picked out the best 100 to purchase. They are some of the finest German-made bows he has ever seen. They range in size from1/4 to full-size and are student grade through professional. To see pictures of a few of the bows, go to the Bows page and click the link at the top for "Pictures".
Piccinotti Instruments
This is our newest instrument from the workshop of Marco Piccinotti, Master violin maker from Parma, Italy. The pictures below are of an instrument made entirely by the Master himself. Scroll down for more information about Marco Piccinotti.
Gailes Violin Shop is proud to offer instruments by the Italian Master, Marco Piccinotti. We believe that he is among the finest Italian makers of our time. Through decades of research and testing, he has developed a unique method of crafting his instruments for absolute quality in both artistic and acoustic aspects. His instruments have been winning awards throughout Europe for almost two decades. Finally, through the shops of the American Violin Alliance, his work is available to American musicians. Please call for an appointment to play his Master-made violins, violas and cellos. We also have his Botega (Workshop) instruments available.
Two years ago, both the winners were playing on instruments from Gailes Violin Shop. Last year, Evangaline Chandran won playing on a violin from GVS.
