Venous reflux or venous insufficiency develops when the valves that usually keep blood flowing out of your legs become damaged or diseased. One of the most common clinical manifestations of venous reflux is varicose veins. Varicose veins are superficial veins that have dilated in response to increased pressure due to incompetent valves in the legs. The main treatment alternative is to re-route blood flow through healthy veins. In the past, this has been done by surgically removing (stripping) the troublesome vein from your leg.Now, patients can be treated with a minimally invasive alternative to vein stripping that closes the diseased vein instead.
