Our home standby emergency generators are state-of-the-art, fully automatic electric generator systems. They provide you quiet, reliable, clean, and safe emergency backup power within seconds of an outage - whether you're home or away.

The time to have back-up power is before you lose power again!
You may think a portable generator or gas generator will be fine for you. If you already own one though, there's a reason you're here.
You're probably fed up with storing smelly gasoline containers, lugging the generator around, running extension cords, cranking it up, and so on.
You probably also discovered amazingly enough, if you're not home, a portable gas generator doesn't work. It doesn't matter if it's a Generac, Briggs and Stratton or a Honda portable generator...You or someone has to be there to start it, and refill it with gasoline.
For those reasons, we decided nearly ten years ago to work exclusively with fully automatic backup generator systems for our clients.
"Early in 2004, Bethesda Generators installed a generator for my home. I am only too happy to recommend this company. They surpassed my expectations. They were professional, courteous, and more than eager to satisfy. My generator has been put to the test twice this year, and it has exceeded its value. It not only did its job, it was extremely quiet for such a large unit. I heartily recommend Bethesda Generators for its professionalism, customer satisfaction, and integrity."

Once you've experienced the peace of mind that comes from enjoying the comforts of your home regardless of power outages from Pepco or Dominion - we know you'll agree. Who doesn't want to have electric power all the time?
Our company has installed diesel, propane, and natural gas backup generators for homes, police stations, fire stations, office buildings, nursing homes, and for Redskins Park. All told, we've installed over 600 generators from start to finish.
Whether you're in our area of Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Silver Spring, Rockville, McLean, Great Falls, Arlington, Washington D.C., Annapolis, Leesburg, or anywhere in the DC Metro area, we can assist you with a turn-key solution.
We have an in-house gas specialist with 35 years of experience, and our field supervisor has 40 years of experience in the construction business.
For your convenience, you can have us maintain your electric generator through our twice a year maintenance visits.
The generators are permanently installed outdoors and are directly connected to the available fuel source, either natural gas or liquid propane (and diesel in some cases). In a power outage, your system takes care of everything so you don't have to do a thing.
It also self-exercises automatically every week for optimum reliability and performance, and alerts you if there are any problems.
How your automatic generator system works

Our home standby residential generator systems sizes range from 10,000 Watts to 150,000 Watts and cost between $9,500 to over $45,000, fully installed.
There are many manufacturers to choose from: Briggs and Stratton, Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, Generac, and on and on for pages I could go.
While many generator companies typically work with only one manufacturer, we prefer to work with several. The reason being, we want to honestly provide the best solution for your specific needs. And sometimes that means one manufacturer may be a better solution for one scenario, while another might be better in other situations.
Some manufacturers might be a good choice for commercials diesel generators. Others are better for small residential generators (Briggs and Stratton for example).
A generator installation involves many steps
Installing a fully automatic backup generator system is not like Ron Popeil's rotisserie oven: Set and forget it. The process of installing a backup generator system involves gas work, electrical work, and often trenching among other things.

You have the easy part though...Just decide what you want powered
Some of our clients simply want selected critical emergency circuits. Others want to enjoy all of their house all of the time. Maybe you have critical needs similar to some of our clients':

"As you know, you recently installed a large Caterpillar generator unit at our home here in Potomac. My wife was amazed that you were able to bring it across the roof of our home and put it precisely in the right location, taking only a few minutes to do so! The unit has worked perfectly since then, not only in its weekly programmed start-ups, but also in a couple of power outages where it has already been tested...Your firm did a most professional job installing our generator...We would unhesitatingly recommend your firm to other homeowners, and we are persuaded that this generator is one of the best home-related investments we have ever made."

You can dig into more info on Sizes, Options, Prices & Specs section for more information. Or again, we here to serve you. So the easiest way to move down the path to having reliable backup power for your home or business is to schedule a free on-site consultation.
In the end, you're the decider. Just give us call.
Once you have a clear idea of everything involved in the design and installation of a fully automatic backup generator system, you can make the decision that's best for you.
After an on-site consultation, we give you a turn-key proposal for the solution you want.

But wait, there's more...For those who want a smidgen more mild, techie info
Automatic generator systems consist of a generator and an Automatic Transfer Switch.
Generators are internal combustion engines that produce electric power (measured in watts) at 120/240 Volts single phase (same as your home utility power).
Engines are either air cooled (similar to motorcycles) or liquid cooled (similar to cars).
Our air cooled units range from 10,000-15,000 Watts of power with 2-3 cylinder engines running at 3,600 RPM.
Our liquid cooled units range from 15,000-100,000 Watts of power with 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 cylinder engines (1.5-8.0 liter) running at 1,800 RPM.
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) are typically installed indoor near the main electrical panel(s). They monitor the house power and, whenever the utility power is out, automatically activate the generator and safely transfer power.
All generators have appealing outdoor weatherproof enclosures with internal mufflers to reduce the noise levels, which is between 70-73dB (@ 23 feet).
Our liquid cooled models come with custom sound-attenuated enclosures, further reducing the sound level down to 59-65dB. We've found the Caterpillar generator systems to be the absolute quietest for larger generators.

Well, turn up your speakers, and check out the Noise Levels section.
And if you're really interested, all you have to do is pick up the phone and call us. We'll be happy to meet you at your property, review your specific situation, and even allow you to listen to one of our many happy clients' who have the system you want.
