Easy Bathroom Renovations
7/17/2013
A look at a few bathroom home renovation ideas that are easy and able to be completed in a weekend.

Remodeling and renovating the bathroom can make the space feel comfortable and updated, but extensive changes are also expensive and challenging. Fortunately, easy renovation options can update the space without costing a small fortune or disrupting life for an extended period of time.

Change the Hardware

Instead of changing all of the cabinets in the bathroom, switch out the hardware. Changing out the hardware is a simple way to update the look of the bathroom without spending hours on the switch or spending a small fortune.

Select up-to-date hardware and change it out with the older hardware in the bathroom. Before selecting a new set of hardware, take a moment to measure the current hardware to avoid complications with the placement of screws.

Paint the Walls

Painting is a low-cost and quick way to update the bathroom and make it appeal to a personal style. Select a color that fits your needs and look you are going for and then paint over the current walls. Depending on the color that is already on the walls, it might be necessary to put down primer to prevent colors from leaking through.

For Primer: Paint the primer on the walls first and allow it to dry according to the instructions. Put the paint over the primer after it has dried for an instant update and new look in the bathroom. If the current walls are covered with wall-paper, then make sure to take it down before painting.

Replace the Mirror

Mirrors are a great way to up give a stylish and relatively inexpensive update to your bathroom. With lots of variations and options this is an easy way to be creative and make your mirror one of the center attractions in the bathroom. If you have a vanity that is not attached to a cabinet, then changing out the mirror is will be easy to remove and replace instantly without wasting hours working on a project. Remove the current mirror from the wall and put in an updated vanity in a style you prefer.

Depending on the mirror, it may be necessary to paint the wall behind the current mirror before you install the new alternative. Select a mirror with a frame that you like for the best look. Ideally, a mirror that is roughly the same size will prevent complications when you are installing it.

Put In a Backsplash

A backsplash can add style and texture to the room, especially around the sink. Since a bathroom has a limited space, it is also a relatively affordable project that will not take too much time. A backsplash can use small or medium tiles to create any look you want.

Putting in a backsplash will depend on the material that you select. In many cases, it is similar to putting in tiles and it may be necessary to remove the current backsplash or pull off the tiles on the walls before you can put in a new backsplash.

The key is selecting changes that you can manage within a weekend’s time frame and that you feel confident in. DC bathroom remodeling is not as hard as it might seem if you start from simple and easy changes that are relatively affordable.
