The highly trained physical therapists at SSRC utilize a wide variety of manual therapy techniques to improve muscle and joint mobility. By using techniques such as joint mobilization and soft tissue mobilization, your therapist will restore range of motion by stretching your joints and decreasing muscle spasm. Your return to function is our highest priority, so each technique will be applied with your individualized goals in mind. Through neuromuscular re-education techniques and exercise, your therapist will help retrain your muscles to promote proper posture and body mechanics that you will use throughout all of your activities of daily living. Our philosophy is that both type of approaches are important in developing a comprehensive physical therapy program.
Now that kids are back to school, the physical therapists at Spine and Sports Rehabilitation Center want to remind parents of the importance of Backpack Safety as an easy way to limit the strain that returning to school can place on their kids. Remember to:
Choose a backpack with wide, padded shoulder straps and a padded back.
Pack light. Organize the backpack to use all of its compartments. Pack heavier items closest to the center of the back. The backpack should not weigh more than 10 to 20 percent of your child’s body weight.
Always use both shoulder straps. Slinging a backpack over one shoulder can strain muscles.
Consider a rolling backpack. This type of backpack may be a good choice for students who must tote a heavy load. Remember that rolling backpacks still must be carried up stairs, and they may be difficult to roll in snow.
